What is there to see and do in the area?
The West Port Hotel is perfectly situated between Glasgow and Edinburgh and is a great place to be based to explore both cities.
The historic town of Linlithgow is, itself, a great place to explore.
Minutes walk from the West Port is Linlithgow Palace. It is located just off the main street (off Kirk gate). The Palace is set in a park beside a loch. The Palace was the birth place of Mary Queen of Scots and is a magnificent 15th century Royal Fortress.
If you enjoy walking and the outdoors visit Beecraigs Country Park only a 3 mile drive from the hotel.
In the neighbouring town of Falkirk, you will find some excellent shopping and also one of Scotland's newest tourist attractions. The Falkirk Wheel is the world's first and only rotating boat lift connecting the Forth & Clyde and Union canals. Callendar Park is an authentic Georgian mansion-turned-museum with large gardens including a children's play area, crazy golf and many woodland walks.
If you are a planning a trip to Scotland's capital you will find there is lots to see and do. The City Centre is 40 minutes drive or a 10/15 minute train ride away. Edinburgh Castle dominates the city situated on top of an extinct volcano overlooking Princes Street and the Royal Mile. Near the End of the Royal Mile at Holyrood, you can now visit the controversial Scottish Parliament building. There are daily guided tours.
If wild life is what you seek you will not be disappointed - visit Deep Sea World and Edinburgh Zoo for 2 great days out. Both are less than half an hours drive from Linlithgow.
